Former royal correspondent joins choral jubilee celebration in Warwick

THE BBC’s former royal correspondent is joining in a choral jubilee celebration in Warwick tonight (Saturday).

Jennie Bond will join the Warwick-based chamber choir and orchestra Armonico Consort, along with the AC Academy children’s choir and the choirs of St Mary’s church in the town at the church at 7.30pm.

The 200 singers and musicians will recreate the music performed during the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - which involved more than 400 massed voices from across the UK.

Highlights of the service included Parry’s I was Glad, Handel’s Zadok the Priest and Walton’s commission for the service, The Coronation Te Deum.

Armonico Consort’s artistic director Christopher Monks said: “It will be such an honour to work with Jennie Bond. When I was growing up, her voice was an iconic accompaniment to all occasions royal.

“We have commissioned a script especially for the occasion and the whole thing will work like a BBC-style ‘overview’, interpolating the most spectacular choral music written by British composers.

“Ending with the National Anthem, this is without doubt probably the most moving concert we have ever created.”

Tickets cost from £10 to £29.50, while they are free of charge for children under 16 who are accompanied by an adult. Call 0844 581 0750 or go online.
