Join the exciting journey of experience at Warwick Arts Centre

ICONIC and heart-wrenching theatre, space rock music and comedy by some of the nation’s most popular stand-ups are among the varied entertainments audiences can look forward to at Warwick Arts Centre this autumn.

The venue’s new head of programme and audiences, Matt Burman, has worked hard with audiences, local and international artists and, of course, the arts centre’s team since he joined in February to put together a full and stimulating artistic programme.

And to share the excitement, he has produced Experience, a new publication that offers readers a peek behind the scenes at Warwick Arts Centre through insightful interviews and a snapshot of what’s to come.

Matt said: “I’ve come here with a passion for connecting art and audiences and I’m thrilled about the exciting journeys of experience we will be able to go on together.

“Warwick Arts Centre has something to offer all tastes – from big name comedians to great gigs from national and international musicians, from world-class theatre and dance to fabulous films, from shows for all the family to stunning sculptures and paintings.

“There’s a world of new experiences on offer here in Coventry – come round our place and take a look for yourself.”

Highlights of the new autumn season include the return of Cornwall’s innovative theatre company Kneehigh, with its adaptation of the BBC’s long-running sitcom Steptoe and Son – an opportunity artistic director Emma Rice has described as “the chance of a lifetime to dive into such an iconic and important body of work”.

Following its successful run of Lovesong at the centre last year, physical theatre company Frantic Assembly is working with the National Theatre of Scotland to bring a new production, Beautiful Burnout, to the stage. The play follows five young boxers, to a backdrop of glittering video screens and pulsating soundtrack from Underworld, as they aim for the bright lights.

Space rock band Spiritualized come home to the Midlands, led by Rugby lad Jason Pierce (J. Spaceman) and the centre also welcomes Ginger Baker, Field Music, Seth Lakeman, Grizzly Bear, Danish band Efterklang with the Northern Sinfonia, The Proclaimers, and Patrick Wolf, to name a few.

As usual, the venue’s comedy season is brimming with some of the best-known names on the circuit, including Jack Dee, Richard Herring, Alan Davies, Tim Key, Mark Watson, Jason Byrne and Rhod Gilbert.

And those with little ones are advised to book early as tickets are already selling fast for the centre’s Christmas show, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
