Leamington group’s ukelele fun aims to provoke HS2 thoughts

The Spa Strummers will perform the four HS2-themed tracks they selected as the best out of ten written by members of the group: HS2 Here’s What We Think of You (music and lyrics by Terry Illingworth), HS2 Phase One (lyrics by Suzanne Moore), Hate Train (lyrics by Barry Collings) and HS2 Blues (lyrics by Ian Mitchell).

Dave Jenkins of the Strummers said: “None of us are members of Cubbington Action Group Against HS2 but we are happy to support the night with a gig. We hope the songs will encourage people who do not have a view on HS2 to look at and think of the issues which surround the project.”

He added: “The Spa Strummers are not campaign group and have individuals with diverse views. We are basically a fun loving group whose members are drawn from all ages and walks of life.

“However, because of the ukulele’s feel good factor, we are thinking of campaigning to make ukuleles free on the NHS as a ‘cure-all’!”

The Cubbington Action Group’s evening takes place at Cubbington Sports and Social Club in Windmill Hill, Cubbington, on Friday (March 28) at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 and are available in advance on 772558 or on the door.
