Leamington’s architecture to inspire fresh new art

LEAMINGTON’s “beautiful” buildings will inspire creative works of art at children’s summer sessions at the Pump Room gallery.

Throughout August, youngsters of all ages are welcome to take part in free ‘art cart’ activities at the venue, where they can make a postcard sized artwork inspired by their favourite building in the town.

The pictures will be put together for a display at the Royal Priors shopping centre on Friday September 2 and Saturday September 3 as part of a special Heritage Open Days exhibition.

The gallery’s events officer Nadia Wazera said: “We hope that children will enjoy creating pictures of their favourite buildings and seeing them as part of this exhibition.

“There are so many beautiful buildings with stunning architecture in Leamington that they will be spoiled for choice!”

The mobile art cart, with its variety of craft materials, is available for anyone to use during normal opening hours. It is also used for free arts and crafts sessions for families on the last Saturday of every month.

Heritage Open Days, which celebrate England’s architecture and culture, take place from Thursday September 8 to Sunday September 11 this year. Visitors will be given the chance to gain free access to interesting properties that are either not usually open or would normally charge an entrance fee. In Leamington, last year’s Heritage Open Days resulted in the highest number of visits to date. Leaflets will soon be available at the Pump Room and Royal Priors and libraries and tourist information centres across Warwick district.
