Memorial concert celebrates musical youth

A CONCERT will be staged in memory of a fondly remembered priest and his wife, both music lovers.

Dr Dennis Brown was a church warden at St Mary Magdalene’s, Lillington, later becoming ordained, and led many services there during his retirement.

The concert has been organised by the couple’s son Francis, along with his brothers Noel and Aidan.

Dr Brown died last year and his wife Jean in 2009. The couple, of Sherbourne Place, had worshipped at the church since 1959.

A research scientist, Dr Brown was ordained in 1982, was a curate in Rugby and became Vicar of Great Wolford in south Warwickshire until he retired in 1996. Performing will be violinist Callum Smart, aged 16, who reached the final of the Young Musician of the Year competition in 2010, and Philip Higham, who is building a national reputation as a cellist.

Francis Brown said: “My father enjoyed watching both performers and I’m sure he would appreciate these two young and up-and-coming performers playing at the concert in their memory.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm on Friday, October 26, and proceeds will be shared between the Royal School of Church Music and St Mary Magdalene’s.

Tickets are available from the Bridge House Theatre box office on 01926 776438 and cost £12, concessions £10. Subject to sales they will also be available on the night.
