The Leamington Consort will present Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Requiem Mass, which was written in 1603, at All Saints’ church in Victoria Terrace.

Directed by Julian Parkin, the choir’s founder and director, the composition for six voices is one of a handful of large-scale works which continues to enjoy mainstream appeal.

Describing the work as “sublime”, Julian said: “For many, it represents what Renaissance polyphony is, what it sounds and feels like, and how expressive it can be.

“The liturgical reconstruction will use the grand space of All Saints’ church to heighten the drama of the setting of the texts for the dead.”

The Leamington Consort formed last year to specialise in music composed during the High Renaissance, Tudor, Jacobean and Baroque eras. Members are semi-professional singers who are former or current cathedral lay clerks or university choral scholars who live in or have strong connections with Leamington.

Tomorrow’s concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 (£8 concessions). Call 429169.
