Summer of fun at Leamington gallery

LEAMINGTON Art Gallery and Museum has a programme of fun and creative events for youngsters lined-up for the summer holidays.

On Saturday July 28 there will be a children’s art competition, which runs from 11am to 3pm with the winners announced at 3.30pm.

Entrants will be challenged to create their own masterpieces using the gallery’s current exhibition, Going for Gold.

Age categories include under-6s, seven to ten and 11 to 15.

Everyone who takes part will receive a prize and the competition is free to enter.

Free summer art clubs, inspired by Going for Gold, will take place on Thursdays from August 9 to August 30.

Activities will include creating Olympic torches, mascots, hats and rosettes.

The sessions, suitable for children aged from six to 12, last 30 minutes and start at 2pm, 2.45pm and 3.30pm.

A two-day dance workshop, led by Motionhouse dance company, will be held at the gallery on Tuesday August 14 and Wednesday August 15 from 11am to 4pm.

Recommended for ages up to 14, the workshops will teach new moves and give youngsters the chance to perform in Jephson Gardens.

Places cost £10 per person.

Nadia Wazera, the gallery’s events officer, said: “Our holiday events are always very popular, offering families and young people the chance to experiment with all kinds of materials and techniques.

“This summer, we hope that our Going for Gold exhibition will inspire everybody to be creative.”
