The group will compete against others from across the country - including Stratford group Caramba - at the National Drama Festivals Association’s British finals, which take place on the Isle of Man from July 20 to 26.

LDG’s entry will be Tell Me Another Story, Sing Me A Song by Jean Lenox Toddie, directed by Rachel Tompkins and Phil Quinn, and starring Jess Daniel and Dawn Gazey-Lewis, which came second in the Lighthorne Festival of One-Act Plays last month.

The villagers will be among nine national finalists competing in the One-Act section.

LDG chairman Brian Lewis said: ”We are thrilled, delighted and extremely proud that an LDG entry has won a place in the national finals - and at only the second attempt. It is a tribute to the talent and dedication of the team which put this show together.

“This year will also see an LDG collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) under their Open Stages project. It is a very exciting year for drama in Lighthorne.”

The LDG/RSC Open Stages project will take place in Lighthorne between November 30 and December 6, with LDG performing Oh, Puck!, or What’s Up Will?, written and directed by Lynda Lewis.
