The compact theatre company’s take on Pride and Prejudice has set the bar high for a summer season after opening in Leamington’s Jepshon Gardens.

With a cast of just five, the contemporary adaptation of a tale of love and friendship was played spectacularly on the outdoor stage.

Using only a few props and an array of dresses and tights to transport an eager audience back in time, the show had viewers gripped and living alongside them from start to finish.

From laughs to love and silliness, even a downpour of persistent rain through the second half of the show did not dampen spirits.

The umbrellas came out and the laughs continued as the cast joked their way through the poor weather and carried on regardless.

The summer’s evening setting was the perfect backdrop for Jane Austen’s most famous novel to come to life.

The lively and enthusiastic company delivered it wonderfully and with a real sense of excitement over two and a half hours.

And all tied up with an impending visit from the Prince Regent and lessons in how to behave from the Association of Higher Etiquette and Manners to open and close the show

Brilliantly created by Heartbreak’s writer-in-residence, David Kerby Kendall, the play must have struck a chord with everyone watching as it followed the emotions and dramas of family life and the hunt for love.

The show is part of a trio of performances, with Peter Pan and Macbeth also touring through the summer and well worth a watch.
