Warriors and Wordsmiths book subject of Xtra event

A journey back in time through the history of the English language took linguistic expert David Crystal and his speech therapist wife Hilary on a real journey through the British Isles, discovering the places and personalities that shaped our mother tongue.

As part of Warwick Words Xtra Events programme, David and Hilary Crystal will be giving an illustrated presentation based on their new book Wordsmiths and Warriors.

This explores the heritage of English through the places in Britain that shaped it and the invaders, poets, scholars, reformers and others who helped to create its character.

David Crystal is one of the world’s foremost experts on linguistics and has written, co-written, and edited over 120 books.

How to be an English Language Tourist takes place at the Bridge House Theatre at Warwick School on Wednesday from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10. Call 776438.
