Award preserves memory of Brian

THE sons of a Kenilworth fork lift truck company leader who was known as one of the industry’s “most respected” figures have been presented with a national award in his honour.

Brian Nealon, who died unexpectedly in November, was chosen as the winner of this year’s Fork Lift Truck Association’s Lifetime Achievement award - the highest honour in the field.

Now in its 17th year, the awards serves as a ‘pick of the year’ for materials-handling products and acknowledges those who strive to raise standards throughout the fork lift truck industry.

Mr Nealon, who was managing director at Bendigo Mitchell, is the first person to receive the lifetime achievement accolade posthumously.

Presenting the award to Mr Nealon’s sons Alastair and Duncan, FLTA president John Chappell said: “For many years, Brian was a crucial stabilising influence on the FLTA board.

“He served two separate terms as chairman and acted as president for an unprecedented four years, laying the foundations for the association’s success today.

“Brian was unflinchingly honest, but also warm, witty and courteous - a true gentleman. Our industry has lost one of its most respected figures, and he will be sorely missed.”

On the night, Bendigo Mitchell also received recognition of 25 years with the Fork Lift Truck Association. Duncan Nealon, who has succeeded his father as the firm’s managing director, said: “This award would have meant a huge amount to my father.

“It seems fitting that we receive the award on the night that we celebrate 25 years with the association, and look forward to continuing this link for the next 25 years and beyond.”
