LadiesFirst delegates get lowdown on the media

Former Midlands newspaper editor Steve Dyson, now a BBC Midlands and online commentator, was the guest speaker at a workshop organised by LadiesFirst Professional Development at Kenilworth Golf Club.

In an event headlined Can You hack It with the Media? the ex-editor of the Birmingham Mail gave nearly 60 delegates an insight into dealing with the media, from
traditional newspapers to online and social media opportunities.

Claire Salmons, a PR and marketing expert with 25 years’ experience who runs Midlands-based The PR Doctor, outlined how smaller businesses can undertake their own PR.

LadiesFirst, backed by Coventry and Warwickshire law firm Alsters Kelley, is a new business support organisation for women.

It was founded by lifelong friends Lisa Kennedy and Julie Richardson and has already attracted wide interest for membership and events.

The next LadiesFirst event is at the Trident Centre in Warwick on March 20 (8.30am), with a debate entitled The Power of Women in Business.

It will be chaired by BBC TV Midlands Today journalist Joan Cummins and the panelists, all Coventry and Warwickshire businesswomen, are: Marla Nelson, director of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Warwickshire College; Krissy Charles-Jones, a highly successful entrepreneur and effective leader with proven business acumen who runs Bright Assessing;Sophie Howe, director of Comtec Translations and chair of the Mid-Warwickshire Branch of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber; and Erica Kemp, head of Family Law and member of Alsters Kelley LLP.
