Founded more than 100 years ago, Charnley’s Opticians, in Parade, has been acquired by Yorkshire-based Bayfields Opticians and Audiologists.

The 15 staff at Charnley’s will remain with the new business including Bernie Hemingway, who has been with the Leamington business for 15 years and will remain practice manager.

The acquisition was agreed after Charnley’s had turned down offers from several other companies.

In a joint letter sent to customers informing them of the sale, Rod and Bernard stated: “We’ve always put our clients first, and we’re confident that you’ll agree wholeheartedly with our choice of Bayfields.”

Royston Bayfield, founder and managing director of Bayfields Opticians and Audiologists, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Charnley’s team in Leamington Spa.

“We’re enjoying getting to know Charnley’s outstanding team and are confident they will contribute to further strengthening our offering as optical and audio specialists across the UK.”

Charnley’s will keep its name for about 12 months with Bayfields introducing extra services within six months.
