Rob offers best present to pub boss

ROB Hartwell, head chef of the Rose and Crown in Warwick, couldn’t have given a better birthday present to his boss.

As the pub prepares to celebrate its tenth anniversary this weekend, Rob was able to tell managing partner Jez Kynaston that he’s just been named as a finalist in the national Pub Restaurant Chef of the Year competition.

Rob is one of three finalists in the prestigious contest, run by the Craft Guild of Chefs and due to take at Wembley Statium in London on June 13.

In the meantime, Mr Kynaston will welcome party-goers to the pub - which is part of the Peaches Pub chain - all this week.

He’s also looking for more personal memories of time spent at the Rose and Crown to add to their growing “wonderwall” of first dates, accidental floodings and stolen balsamic vinegar bottles.

Perhaps more to the point for those still too young to drink, Mr Kynaston is marking the birthday by hiring an ice cream van to tour Warwick offering free cones and party bags.
