Rugby council continues to repeat its plea that residents avoid mixing between households as Rugby's lab-confirmed coronavirus rate climbed to 116.58 per 100,000 this morning, October 16.

In a statement issued this morning on social media, a spokesperson for the council wrote: "There were 22 cases confirmed yesterday.

"There have been 127 confirmed cases in the last seven days, which is an infection rate of 116.58/100,000.

"Please do not meet with friends or family in the home. Help us avoid a local lockdown."

Last week Shade Agboola, director of Public Health for Warwickshire, said: “All of the data shows that the biggest cause of transmission of Covid-19 in Rugby is social visits to friends and family.

"Sadly, without knowing it residents are putting their loved ones at risk.

"Our best defence from Covid-19 is to make sure that we don’t take it home with us.

"This means washing our hands, wearing a face covering, keeping the social distancing rules and, for now, not visiting or socialising with other households.

“We are reaching a critical point where, if infection rates don’t start to fall, we will have to have measures imposed.

"We have to keep going, stick to the rules, and follow these additional guidelines.”

An exception to the request is mixing between a support bubble, whereby an adult living alone forms a bubble with another household.

Rugby remains at a Tier-1 level of restriction and, although the case rate has exceeded the 100 per 100,000 figure that authorities view as cause for concern, there are a range of other factors that authorities would consider before raising Rugby's restrictions to Tier 2.

In addition to asking residents not to mix between households, Rugby council is urging people to remember 'hands, face and space'.
