A colourful extrovert from SEAT

Just 3.55 metres long, the Mii is SEAT’s solution for modern-day urban transport - something that in this day and age needs to make a personal statement.

This car can certainly do just that if you order it in extrovert Vibora Negra form.

This is a special edition version of the car, but you can order the style elements that make up the ‘Vibora Negra’ pack individually and fit them to any Mii variant, three or five-door, 60 or 75PS, manual or automatic.

The items that make up this Vibora Negra edition don’t include any tweaks beneath the bonnet, so as with any Mii, you can have this one powered by either 60 or 75PS versions of the same 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine.

Transmission choice, as usual, is between the normal five-speed manual gearbox or a clever ‘ASG’ robotised manual that employs a pair of electric motors to help finesse the auto shifts.

Personally, I’d think twice about paying extra for the 75PS version, unless you particularly want the auto gearbox you can specify with it: subjectively, after all, it hardly feels any faster, even if on paper, the 0-60 time improves from 14.4s to 13.2s and the top speed rises from as little as 99 to 108mph.

And the discussion’s a pretty pointless one anyway, since no one bases their citycar decision on how quickly they’ll be able to flog the thing from rest to sixty.

All that really matters is whether this car has enough about it beneath the bonnet to jink around in the traffic light Grand Prix that is modernday city motoring. It does - just about.

The engine has just enough torque - a hardly rippling 95Nm - to mean that you’re not always bothering the gearbox.

Although it shares its basic dimensions and proportion with its VW and Skoda siblings, the Mii is clearly recognisable as a member of the SEAT family.

Its front end carries forward the typical arrow motif, while its profile is characterised by its more prominent wheelarches and slender roof pillars. There’s a choice of either three or five-door bodystyles.

It’s only when you start to apply the Vibora Negra frippery though, that this Iberian town tot really gains a big slice of personality.

The pack includes black twin stripes for the bonnet, the roof and the tailgate, plus side stripes, alloy wheels, a tailgate spoiler, side skirts and mirror caps that are finished in - you’ve guessed it - black.

You’ll find that colour again inside on the glossy gearknob and the chequered dashboard decals.

The Vibora Negra styling pack offers an important answer to the key question surrounding SEAT’s Mii - namely why you should buy one in preference to the Volkswagen up! and Skoda Citigo models that share its basic design.

Only SEAT can offer this extrovert trimming approach and it’s one that very much suits their brand - and this car.

So equipped, a Mii can offer a tempting mix of sense and individuality - perhaps the embodiment of SEAT’s ‘enjoyneering’ slogan.

Is this is what it means, then count me in.
