Youngsters have chance to shine in Leamington gallery’s competition

LEAMINGTON Art Gallery and Museum is inviting youngsters to take part in its annual Children’s Art Competition on Saturday.

The free event gives children aged up to 15 the opportunity to create their own masterpieces using the current exhibition, Lord Leicester’s Warwickshire, as inspiration.

Prize winners will be selected by Warwick District Council chairman Cllr Felicity Bunker, Cllr Susan Gallagher, who is responsible for policy on culture, Friends of Leamington Art Gallery (FLAG) chairwoman Diana Adams and artist Lynsey Cleaver.

There will be prizes for the winners of three age categories - 6 years and under, 7 to 10 and 11 to 15.

The Charles Lines Award, which was introduced in 2009 to recognise artistic potential in the 11 to 15 category, will be awarded again.

Charles Lines MBE was dedicated to the history of country houses and the history of Warwickshire.

During his lifetime he served on the National Trust’s Council and was president of its Coventry centre.
