Anger over 4,800 homes plan

They said that not only are the plans flawed and unsustainable, but the consultation period is ‘despicably’ short.

The development is planned near Lighthorne Heath and Gaydon.

This would clash for the proposed 4,500 homes proposed just south of Warwick and Kenilworth.

The latter plans have been put forward by Warwick District Council and the Lighthorne and Gaydon ones by Stratford District Council. Both are part of the districts’ respective Local Plans, which requitre thousands of new homes to be buuilt by 2029.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Sarah Vaughan said after a recent meeting in Lighthorne Heath that 4,800 homes plan “will cause considerable and unwelcome damage to local wildlife and rural communities with its sheer size”.

She added: “Current plans are ‘developer’ led (not in line with Stratford District Core Strategy Documentation and Statement) and the consultation period is a despicable 6 weeks which does not allow any local action group to gather speed or deliver advice and counter-arguments.

“Other and better suited build-sites have already been dismissed, despite the land being cheaper, as the road infrastructure is not there and would need to be implemented quickly and would be expensive, thus the Stratford District Council appear to be looking at the cheapest options and not the most suitable ones.”

The meeting heard that the plans would have a direct affect on the Warwick district in terms of road infrastucture and the local economy.

Developers said facilities will be included in the plans.

But campaigners said they have still not had any specific answers to how hospitals will cope with the extra numbers and whether any extra schools will be built. The plans for 4,500 homes south of Warwick, Leamington and Whitnash have also been met by huge opposition - including MP Chris White.
