Armed robbery: female post office worker tied up by man with gun

A FEMALE post office worker was threatened with a gun and tied up during a robbery in Ryton-on-Dunsmore.

The incident happened at the post office in Bagshaw Close yesterday (Monday) at 11.35am.

A man entered the post office and threatened the member of staff working behind the counter with what is believed to be a handgun.

She opened the gate and the man stole a quantity of cash, 2,000 euros and hundreds of first and second class stamps.

The man tied the woman by her hands and feet before stealing the keys to a blue ‘07 registration Vauxhall Corsa and taking the vehicle from outside the premises and driving off.

Police were alerted after the alarm was activated and the woman was found tied up behind the counter.

Officers are asking the public for help to identify the man, who is described as mixed race, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 10ins tall, with a stocky build, wide face, Warwickshire accent and a noticeable deep scar in the corner of his right eye.

He was dressed in black clothing.

Police are also appealing to anyone who has been offered euros or the stamps, which have very distinctive Wallace and Gromit Christmas designs, to come forward.

CCTV has been checked by officers and patrols have been increased in the area in order to reassure the community and find any witnesses.
