Axe to fall on Warwick buildings

WARWICKSHIRE County Council looks set to push ahead with plans to move out of several buildings in the centre of Warwick.

They need to make savings of £4.41m by March 2014 and the council cabinet last week approved recommendations to proceed with the first phase of the programme.

It will see staff from 12 buildings being brought together into five buildings, including the move of Barrack Street library into the Shire Hall building in Market Place.

Cllr Colin Hayfield said: “The first phase of our plan to rationalise the county council property portfolio will see us take a great stride in the direction of producing an effective and sustainable savings plan.

“We will have to use space more efficiently and share resources such as workspace, administration and IT.

“But if the end result is that we are able to reduce costs, work together closely and efficiently and deliver a better service to our public, then it is the best way to tackle the financial challenges that we are faced with.”
