A NORTHEND couple are “appalled” at an attack on their cat which shattered his elbow and left him with three legs for the rest of his life.

Janet and Steven White’s cat Otis was shot with a pellet gun in what they suspect was a deliberate, close-range attack. The damage caused to the animal was so severe that vets had to remove his front right leg.

Since his operation last Friday, he has had to stay shut up in a room to prevent him from going outside while recovering.

Mrs White, who owns several other cats and two dogs, said: “We’re shocked by the senselessness of it all.

“There are a lot of cats in the village and we are all quite friendly with each other. I cannot believe anybody would do such a thing.

“He does cry a lot because he is used to being with the others. He was a very good hunter, but he won’t be able to do that anymore.”

Vet Penny Baines of Avonvale Vetinary Practice in Southam, who treated Otis, said: “Unfortunately it’s not uncommon to see cats that have been shot. Sometimes you don’t even know it’s been injured until you have an x-ray taken for another reason and the pellet shows up.”

Mr and Mrs White have reported the incident to the RSPCA.
