Co-op donation helps to raise the Roof

A homeless project for young people in Warwickshire has landed a surprise £1,000 donation from the Heart of
England Co-operative Society.

Roof Project, based in Leamington, provides support for some of the most vulnerable members of society, working with local authorities, supported accommodation providers and other charities and organisations, as well as the families of the young people, with the ultimate goal where possible of enabling the young person to return home to family life.

Practical help with day-to-day life is also high on the agenda, providing hot food for young people who have not eaten, purchasing food and toiletries for those who are awaiting income or who are sleeping on a friend or relative’s sofa.

Hollie Hutchings, senior practitioner within Warwickshire County Council’s targeted youth support service, said: “Our project is only able to continue in its work with kind donations from individuals, families, churches and groups.

“The money from the Heart of England Co-op will enable the support to continue.

“The project is very grateful for the Co-op’s support and on behalf of the young people who will benefit from this kind donation we thank the society’s members.

“It is great they have recognised our work and the crucial need for it to continue, to support our young people when they need it most.”

Ali Kurji, chief executive of the society, said: “We are
delighted to be able to support Roof which works hard to
support young people, many of whom are also facing mental health problems as well as the trauma of having nowhere to live and are unable to see anything positive in their futures.

“The plight of these young people has clearly touched the hearts of our members, many of whom have taken the first step in playing a direct part in helping these young people get their lives back on track.

“On behalf of our members we are delighted to be able to support the charity and thank our members who have played a vital part in enabling this award.”
