Colourful event was held to mark Purple Day

YOUNGSTERS at a Sydenham nursery brightened up a charity’s day with an artistic fundraising effort recently.

Staff at the Purple Playhouse, at Sydenham Primary School in Calder Walk, organised various activities for the children to mark Purple Day - a global event which aims to raise awareness of epilepsy.

They decorated biscuits, played with purple play dough, painted pictures in purple paint, had their faces painted and took part in a sponsored colouring event.

The youngsters also took a colouring book home.

Overall the nursery raised £660 for the Epilepsy Society.

Charity representative Nicola Swanborough said: “I can’t tell you how appreciate we are of the generosity of supporters.

“The money really helps us to continue to provide vital services for people with epilepsy.

“It also helps us to fund pioneering research into the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.”

Linda Crump, manager of the Purple Playhouse, said the nursery felt it was important to support a worthwhile cause and to raise awareness of the medical condition.
