Could you be Warwick’s new town clerk?

The job of town clerk to Warwick is to be re-advertised after a number of potential candidates had to withdraw their applications.

Derek Maudlin, the present clerk who is now aged 71, was disappointed when three or four strong candidates interviewed for the post had to withdraw due to a mixture of problems, including a sick relative and, in one case, the offer of a more highly-paid job.

Mr Maudlin said: “We hope to re-advertise my job in various journals and on websites by the end of this month or the first week in August.

“We had some good applications last time and it was just unfortunate that we haven’t been able to progress these.

“The salary scale will be £29,000 to around £32,000 and it would be an advantage if candidates had some experience of local government and finance as they would be handling a budget of £550,000 a year.

“We would also expect applicants to be prepared to study for a certificate in local administration.”

Essentially the clerk’s job is 35 hours a week with a little evening and weekend work for which there is time off in lieu.
