County’s probation trust is among the best in the country

THE organisation that works with convicted criminals across Warwickshire has been named as one of the best performing trusts of its kind in England and Wales.

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation, an independent watchdog, selected Warwickshire Probation Trust as one of the top because inspectors found that it takes pride in the service it delivers and that it has an enthusiastic and committed workforce.

The inspection focused on the quality and impact of the work that the trust does with the offenders it supervises and found that more than 80 per cent of the work the trust does to reduce re-offending, manage the risk of harm to others and enforce compliance with court orders was handled well.

Trust chief executive Liz Stafford said: “We are delighted with the results. This performance has been achieved through sustained commitment to high quality practice over a number of years.

“It is a tribute to our staff and to the partners with whom we work.“

In the inspection report, which was published on Tuesday, comments included: “In Warwickshire we found enthusiastic practitioners and committed managers. The trust takes pride in the quality of service delivery and has an organisational culture which promotes learning and development.

“We saw good work being done with offenders and the trust achieved positive outcomes for offenders, many of whom made good progress in reducing factors linked to their re-offending.”
