The jailed offender then tried to flee the vehicle, leaving the child and a woman in the car
A reckless driver has been jailed after going on a dangerous high speed chase in Warwickshire - with a child in the car.
Jake Ilsley, aged 26 of Hill Road, Kersley, appeared in court in connection with an incident that took place on November 23 2020 in Bedworth.
The court heard that officer, PC Jack Maguire, tried to stop the Audi A3 being driven by Isley in Smorrall Lane.
Upon seeing the marked police vehicle, Ilsley, who had a woman and a 10-year-old child as passengers in his car, accelerated, reaching speeds of over 80mph, in an attempt to escape arrest.
Ilsley was pursued along Exhall Road and New Road into Ash Green. Upon approaching the crossroads, Ilsley failed to give way and drove at speed into the path of oncoming traffic from Vicarage Lane, colliding with a skip lorry.
CCTV footage of the incident showed the ferocity of the collision, which caused the Audi to spin 180 degrees and substantial damage to the HGV.
The woman and child passengers were able to exit the vehicle and fortunately sustained only minor injuries. Ilsley was apprehended after attempting to flee the scene.

In court on Tuesday April 13, Ilsley pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, exposing a child to unnecessary suffering/injury, failing to stop and driving without insurance. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison and disqualified from driving for four years and seven months.
PC Jack Maguire said “Ilsley’s shocking, reckless and utterly thoughtless actions endangered the lives of himself, his passengers and members of the public. It is a miracle that nobody was seriously hurt.”
