As the Courier reported earlier this year, the Leamington Carnival is returning to the town in July - and now the committee is preparing to select the 2014 carnival king and queen.

Anyone aged between 16 and 25 can enter the king and queen competition, while eight to 15-year-olds can enter another competition to be selected as junior attendants and the carnival’s maid and paige boy.

Entrants will then attend the selection evening at the Spa Centre in Newbold Terrace on March 14, where they will be asked a few short questions on stage by a judging panel. Those selected will be crowned on the night in a special ceremony. All winner must be available on carnival day, July 12.

Leamington mayor Cllr Judith Clarke said: “It has been 18 years since the last carnival queen and king were crowned in Royal Leamington Spa, so this year will be very special. The queen and king and their attendants will lead the carnival procession and be invited to support other prestigious events in the town.”

Carnival committee chairman Jamie Walker said: “I am thrilled we’re now accepting entry forms for the carnival king and queen and their attendants. This is set to be a fantastic evening which the whole community can get involved in. I would like to also take this opportunity to thank BID Leamington for their support with this event.”

Prizes donated by Leamington hair salon Blaze will be presented to competition winners. Another firm from the town, Textile Anarchist, is also supporting the carnival by providing a new design for the carnival queen’s dress.
