Decision on new homes plan is still due in May

DELAYS in getting hold of information about transport infrastructure will not hold up a decision on where future development around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth will go.

Warwick District Council voted on Wednesday for further changes to its schedule in drawing up its next local plan governing housebuilding and development.

Councillors voted in December to allow around 550 homes a year between 2014 and 2028 - 8,250 in all and more than twice the number most residents chose in a consultation last summer.

Officers are currently working to identify sites for homes, offices, industry and schools over the 15 years from 2014 in a plan to replace unpopular regional guidance begun under the last government.

In a report to councillors, development policy manager Dave Barber said information on transport and infrastructure needed for meetings in March would not now be available until April.

Councillors are due to be briefed on ‘preferred’ sites and meet in political groups on May 14. The council is expected to approve the options on May 21.
