TWO elderly pedestrians were injured during a road collision in Leamington town centre this morning.

The incident took place at the junction of Portland Street and Regent Street at about 11.30am.

A dark grey Vauxhall Astra was in collision with a silver VW Tiguan and an elderly man and woman were hit in the crash.

The woman suffered serious head injuries and was taken by air ambulance, which had landed at the Pump Room Gardens, to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire where staff were alerted of her life-threatening condition.

The man suffered a minor hand injury and was treated at the scene before being taken to Warwick hospital.

The female driver of one of the cars was treated for shock and also taken to the hospital.

Police blocked part of the road and diverted traffic away from the scene of the crash.

Clark Chalice works at Franks in Regent Street and said the road outside the hairdresser was an “accident hotspot”.

He had called the Courier earlier in the week to voice his concerns and was at the scene of the collision.

He said: “I’ve worked here for 20 years and I’ve seen maybe half a dozen to a dozen crashes on this junction every year so it doesn’t really matter about the road markings but now they’ve resurfaced it and just look how it has been left.

People come from the lights and they speed along this road we need a speed hump on this road as well, they’ve done Warwick Street they’ve widened the parking bays, they’ve done all the pavements and I’m not even sure if it is an accident hotspot up there but this always has been.”
