Sunshine to bring power to hospitals

POWER at Warwick Hospital will soon be generated using energy from the sun.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, has announced plans to install solar panels on some of the site’s buildings that will generate 50 kilowatts of power.

A further 20 kilowatts will be generated at Stratford Hospital, also run by the trust, which is working on the scheme with Community Energy Warwickshire, a co-operative scheme set up in the south of the county last year.

Funds for the scheme, which is believed to be the first time the NHS has worked with the community to install solar power at hospitals, will be raised by people buying shares in the scheme, which will offer a modest return on their investment and advice on saving energy.
