First stage complete for improvements to Eagle Recreation Ground in Leamington

Warwick District Council has announced the completion of the first stage of the project which includes multi-play units, a roundabout and see-saws as well as re-surfacing around the existing equipment.

The next stage will be to create a purpose-built BMX track and nature area at the park.

The nature area will be looked after by pupils

from the nearby Shrubland Street Primary School, who will learn about woodland management on-site. The council is also installing a new vehicle entrance to help facilitate community events in the future.

Jill Barker, of the Friends of Eagle Rec group said: “We saw the need for improved playground equipment to add to the pieces we funded some years ago and the council has responded magnificently.

“Now we have a playground that is truly for all age groups.

“Imaginative schemes such as the Schools’ Nature Area and the BMX track will make our beautiful Rec even more popular than it is already.”

Last Friday, children from Shrubland Street school joined the Friends of Eagle Rec and council representatives to try out the new play equipment for themselves.

Former Warwick District Councillor, Alan Wilkinson, who has been heavily involved with the project added: “I am delighted to see this much-needed programme come to fruition.”
