Warwickshire’s first ‘Focus on Food Week’ starts on Monday, with various community centres holding public events around the issue from Monday to Friday next week.

Councils, health and housing professionals and workers in the voluntary sector also attended a food poverty conference on Friday to raise awareness of the issues surrounding food poverty and financial hardship.

The number of people accessing Warwickshire foodbanks over the last six months has reached 5,000.

Councillors and council staff are also being invited to spend no more than £10 on their food next week and write about their experiences.

And during the week, people will be invited to bring food donations to food bank collection points in council buildings and sign up to volunteer with the banks.

Events are taking place at various venues in Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth, Wellesbourne and surrounding villages. For details, visit news.warwickshire.gov.uk/blog/2013/10/21/focus-on-food-week-11-15-november
