February 12, 1916

The supply of petrol available for the use of owners of private motor cars will in future be considerably restricted. Nearly a month ago restrictions upon the supply of petrol were foreshadowed by the British Petroleum Company in a circular. Now, by some companies at any rate, a limit has been placed upon the number of gallons to be supplied to the various districts. Private users should exercise the utmost economy.

February 11, 1966

The Ministry of Transport has given the go ahead for work to begin on the M6 Midland Link between the M1 at Catthorpe and the M6 in Staffordshire. It is hoped to build all sections of the Catthorpe to Castle Bromwich motorway concurrently. The section from Catthorpe to Coleshill is scheduled to be completed by 1970. Because of the complexities of driving a major motorway throuhg industrial and residential Birmingham the Ministry cannot say when works will be completed.

This is Your Life viewers had a big surprise this week when former Rugby Mayor Evelyn Humphreys made a guest appearance. Cllr Humphreys joined the celebrations for ’Allo ’Allo actress Carmen Silvera, who plays Rene’s long-suffering wife in the comedy series. She was the first to greet her old school friend after Michael Aspel had brought the television star to the Thames studio.
