GCSE RESULTS: Another record-breaking year

Southam College achieved another set of very strong GCSE results, with 77 per cent of students gaining five A* to C grades including English and maths. The school has reported “particularly pleasing” results in maths, with 30 per cent of all grades being A* or A and 87 per cent A* to C.

Headteacher Ranjit Samra said: “In an academic year where there have been huge changes to the examination system, all students, staff and parents should feel very proud of their achievements.”

Joy Mitchell, headteacher at North Leamington School, has said that this year’s GCSE results (which are subject to change) highlight a real strength in the increased number of students achieving at least five or more A* to A grades; a trend that replicates the Year 12 results last week. The school has also continued to see excellent results in a number of subjects, particularly in maths, science and geography.

Ms Mitchell said: “I’m delighted with the increase in the number of individual successes that we have had for so many of our students; particularly the number of higher grades, but also for the continued exceptional progress being made in maths.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students, staff and parents/carers for their hard work, support and commitment to making this year a success.”

More than 43 per cent of the grades achieved at Warwick School were A*s, making it the third summer in a row that A* grades have exceeded 41 per cent and setting a new record for the school.

Twelve students scored a clean sweep of top grades, with some 43 students achieving only A and A* grades. Sixty-seven students, nearly half the cohort, achieved five or more starred A grades.

In the three sciences, 69 per cent of grades awarded were A*, whilst this year’s ICT cohort recorded 100 per cent A* or A results, with the chemists achieving 97 per cent A* or A grades.

Headteacher Gus Lock said: “I am delighted that once again our pupils excelled in their public examinations. This is the largest cohort in the history of the school - and yet they have maintained, and indeed bettered, the consistently high academic record that we so pride ourselves on. To break the A* record in a period of grade deflation is testament to their incredible hard work and talent. We are all extremely proud of them; they have done this whilst also achieving remarkable things outside the classroom, be it in music, sport, drama and much more.

“Both they and I owe an immense debt of gratitude to all our staff whose expertise, passion and complete commitment combine to offer an education which is outstanding in every respect.”

Aylesford School headteacher Steve Hall said: “I am very pleased to report that the schools examination results have held up against a national backcloth of tougher matriculation. Sixty-two per cent of students achieved the five or more A* to C benchmark and initial progress measures suggest very good performance in this area.

“I would like to record my thanks to students, parents and teachers who together have enabled so many academic successes.”

Trinity School’s headteacher Chris Gabbett has congratulated students, staff and parents. He said: “I am very proud to have improved on last year’s results, and particularly pleased with the progress made by all of our year eleven students. Many of them have chosen to continue their educational journey at our sixth form which is wonderful.

“Schools are measured by so much more than just grades though, and this graduating year eleven group have given an incredible amount to both Trinity and to the wider community. As a school we feel this is just as commendable as high grades and I thank them all for their selfless and worthy contribution, and for the ways that they have modelled outstanding leadership for our younger students. I wish them every success.”

Girls at the Kingsley School in Leamington are celebrating impressive GCSE results with almost 50 per cent of grades being A* and A.

The overall pass rate was 100 per cent with 79 per cent A* to B grades.

In chemistry, biology, physics and statistics, almost all girls passed with A* or A and overall no one achieved less than a B grade in these subjects.

Girls at Kingsley continue to excel at languages, with those taking Spanish and Latin language all passing GCSE with A* and A grades. A group of able Year 9 and 10 girls who completed a short course GCSE in Mandarin as an enrichment option were all awarded distinctions.

Headteacher Heather Owens said: “The Kingsley School has continued its trend of achieving top grades at GCSE and, once again, I am incredibly proud of what the girls and staff have achieved. I am especially thrilled at our success in encouraging our young women in science and languages, subjects which can open so many doors for them in the future.”

Myton School’s headteacher Paul McIntyre said: “We are extremely happy for our students at GCSE level again this year, although our precise results as a school will not be known for a couple of weeks. We are pleased to have maintained our very high standards from last year. These qualifications will enable our students to go forward to even greater successes in whatever direction they choose.

“I would like to congratulate the students, their teachers and supportive parents and carers on working together to achieve such exceptional results and to make our students’ ambitious dreams come true – it is testament to their dedication, hard work and commitment. We set high expectations at Myton and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces this morning as the students collected their results and realised that they had received the just rewards for their efforts.”

King’s High School girls celebrated another excellent year of results as 10 girls received nine or more A*s - and three of those each achieving 10 A* grades.

A total of 66 percent of grades were marked at A* to A with 89 percent of all grades recorded at A* or B .

And 98 percent of girls passed with A* to C grades.

Headteacher, Elizabeth Surber said: ,“I am very proud of these GCSE results which demonstrate that our girls are flourishing.”

In addition, 56 of the 83 candidates achieved five or more A*or A grades.

Campion School celebrated success as the school achieved its best results ever.

Another year of strong performances has resulted in 58 per cent of the year group gaining at least 5A*-C grades including both English and maths at Grade C or above. In particular, the GCSE English results were outstanding, with 78 per cent of students achieving Grade C or above.

Headteacher Mark Feldman said: “I’m very proud of our performance; they are our highest ever results. We achieved these results despite a volatile and very challenging national climate of education. Our students rose to the challenge because the ethos for learning and achievement among the year group was excellent and they were taught very well. Our students were very well motivated, worked very hard and thoroughly deserve their success. I am particularly pleased with the results in the crucial subject of English in which the great majority of students exceeded government expectations for progress.”

Kenilworth School has praised pupils after 82 percent achieved five A* to C grades and 100 per cent took away five passes from A* to G.

A total of 18 pupils achieved 10 or 11 A or A* grades.

Headteacher Hayden Abbott said: “All pupils deserve to be congratulated. We are immensely proud and we wish them good luck in whatever they go on to do.”

Record breaking progress for Kineton High Schools students have been celebrating their GCSE achievement today. Sixty-eight per cent achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and maths, with 77 per cent attaining an A* to C grade in English and 74 per cent attaining an A* to C grade in maths.

Headteacher Julia Morris said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and staff who have worked hard with the support of parents to achieve these great results.”

Princethorpe College pupils are celebrating success with a third of all grades coming in at A* or A.

Of the 126 pupils sitting exams this year, 60 percent came in with pass rate at B or above - and 21 pupils achieved at least eight A* or A grades.

Head teacher Ed Hester, said he was delighted with the excellent results which confirm how far the school’s academic profile has developed.

“It is marvellous to be able to celebrate such success and all credit goes to the pupils and staff for their hard work,” he said.

“I am delighted that the vast majority of this cohort will continue into our wonderful sixth form.”
