Hayley hopes glitzy bash will raise thousands for campaign

GLITZ and glamour will be a feature of an event which will raise money for a cancer charity close to its organiser’s heart.

For the second year running Hayley Green, 41, of The Valley, Radford Semele, is organising a ball which she hopes will raise thousands of pounds for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign.

Miss Green has experienced the problems and heartache that tumours cause.

Her sister Michele Papajohn, who lives in the USA, has a benign tumour which is inoperable and requires her to have regular checks and take medication.

And her friend Madie Clark’s husband David died of a tumour last year.

Miss Green said: “The campaign gets so little support but once you speak to people you find that so many of them have been touched by brain tumours.

“It is one of the most common cancers deaths in children and more women under 35 and men under 45 die from brain tumours than from any other cancer.”

The black tie event for over-18s, which raised £6,500 last year, will again be held at the Stratford Manor hotel and will take place on Saturday January 29 from 6.30pm to 1am.

Attractions include a three-course dinner, live entertainment and an auction in which the main lot is a diamond and pearl pendant donated by Stratford jeweller George Pragnall.

Miss Green said: “I’m hoping to raise about £7,000 this year but with the world the way it is we’ll be grateful for anything.”

Tickets cost £50.
