Hospitals consider takeover option

THE trust that runs Warwick Hospital could save another Warwickshire hospital from closure.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has proposed to George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton the option of it taking over.

A spokeswoman said: “It is likely that George Eliot Hospital will shortly release a list of possible options and if our trust is on this list, we would start a piece of due diligence work to gain a greater understanding of the organisation.

“With this acquisition, there would be an opportunity to create a single stronger organisation which focuses solely on the healthcare needs of the people of Warwickshire.”

The north and south of the county would also work together on care outside the hospital as the trust works with family doctors in both areas.

The spokeswoman added: “The trust would only undertake such a venture if there were felt to be benefits to the local population.”

A statement issued by the George Eliot Hospital said: “We are keen to explore a wide range of options and are looking at models which bring as many benefits as possible, for both the population we serve and our staff.”

There will be a more in-depth report in next week’s Courier.
