Irish music talents takes Leamington group to the top

Members and supporters of the Leamington-based St Joseph’s Irish Music Group are still in a state of disbelief after winning the under-12s category of the All England Fleadh.

The group, part of the Leamington branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, were happy enough to make it to the finals of the competition, which was held in Glasgow on June 28 - but they were shocked to be selected as the best.

Dawn Robinson, whose daughter is in the group, said: “When it was announced we won, the place erupted. This is such a massive achievement for a small music group.”

The young musicians will now go on to compete in the world championships stage of the competition, which takes place in Sligo, Ireland, in August - but because the group were not expecting to win, they now need help with fundraising to enable the children to attend.
