Jewellery burglars raid Kenilworth homes

Properties in Villiers Road, Common Lane, Barrow Road and De Montfort Road were all burgled on the evening of Friday October 24, and entry was gained in all four cases by forcing a side or rear door open.

Officers from Kenilworth Safer Neighbourhood Team are in no doubt that the four cases were linked.

Sergeant David Kettle outlined steps that residents can take in order to avoid being targeted by burglars.

He said: “In a number of the offences on Friday the houses had been left unattended for protracted periods.

“If you are away from you home for any length of time please ensure you consider what methods you can use to make your home look inhabited.

“This could include using lights on a timer, or getting a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on the house, draw your curtains and collect your post.

“Properly recording property details is also important. This includes recording serial numbers, activating security locating software on phones and tablet computers, and in the case of jewellery having accurate records including photographs of items.”

An unrelated burglary also took place on the same night at a Thornby Avenue property where an expensive child’s scooter left in an insecure porch was stolen.

Sgt Kettle added: “The fifth burglary is an example of the need to be more security-minded, and this is a repeat of previous messages to ensure properties are secured to prevent opportunistic thefts.”

All five offences are receiving the attention of dedicated investigative teams as well as the Kenilworth SNT.
