Kenilworth sexual assault ‘did not happen’

Police have ended an investigation into sexual assault in Kenilworth after confirmation that the incident did not happen.

A major investigation was launched on September 8 after a woman in her 20s reported being attacked in Dalehouse Lane.

She told police she was walking near the railway bridge at around 5.15am on Monday when she was approached by two men, and sexually assaulted by one of them.

Detectives from Leamington CID carried out an extensive search of the area, completed house-to-house inquiries and studied CCTV footage.

The investigation involved dozens of officers including detectives and forensic experts as well as days of man-hours.

Detective Inspector Liam Barry said: “From our enquiries and further interviews with the woman involved we have established that the reported offence did not occur.

“We would like to thank the community in Kenilworth for their help and reassure people that, as is the case with all reports of such a serious nature, a full and thorough investigation was carried out.”
