Kenilworth student to cycle across north India for charity

A Kenilworth student and barman is swapping pint glasses for two wheels and taking on the challenge of cycling 540km across northern India to raise funds for charity.

Nineteen-year-old Joe Scothern, who works at the Falcon in Hatton, will this summer pedal the 540km across what is commonly known as the ‘Golden Triangle’, which covers New Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan.

And he is aiming to complete the gruelling journey in the sweltering Indian summer heat within one week - all to raise funds for Childreach International.

Joe said: “I am taking on the challenge in order to raise awareness about the disparities in education between boys and girls in the developing world, as well as to try to stop the trafficking of young girls from Nepal and India.

“Since starting university, my fitness has significantly decreased - so I will be training from now until the summer.”
