Leamington branch manager completed 287-mile fundraising cycle for Help for Heroes despite being knocked down by car

Colin Hall, branch manager of Denmans Electrial in Leamington, was cycling to all the branches in the South and South-West midlands when he was clipped by a hit-and-run driver while he was in the cycle lane.

Luckily, he was unhurt and able to carry on to raise more than £1,400 for Help for Heroes - his employer’s chosen charity.

Mr Hall, 46 said: ”It was just one of those things. I gave myself ten minutes and then got back on the bike and just got going again.

“The cycle itself wasn’t too bad, but if I hadn’t have been training at Studio CV34 in Warwick with my personal trainer Alan Pritchard it would’ve been a lot tougher.

“But I’ve been wrokign hard for the past 12 months.”

Mr Hall first started cycling for charity whe he took part in the Myton cycle ride three years ago.

His regional director Jon Moore then asked him to put his new found enthusiasm to good use for the cancer charity Marie Curie and Mr Hall set himself the challenge of cycling 190 miles around the Denmans branches in the Midlands.

The ride this year started at 4.20am on June 24 and ended at 11.20am the next day and took him to branches in Hereford, Merthyr Tydfil, Cwmbran, Stroud, Gloucester and finally Cheltenham.

For his next challenge, Mr hall plans to take on a famous route.

He said: “I’m thinking about doing Land’s End to John O’Groats which will take me between five and seven days.

“If it’s next year it’ll be for Help for Heroes again.”
