Leamington student wins Institution of Mechanical Engineers award

Christopher, who attended Myton Specialist Science and Training School, has won the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ (IMechE) Whitworth Scholarship Award - which will contribute towards his engineering degree at Warwick University.

The scholarship will see Christopher receiving £2,500 each year.

It was presented to the top engineering students in the UK at a ceremony at the Institution’s headquarters in London last month.

Prof Richard Folkson, president of IMechE, said: “Christopher has proven himself to be one of the most promising young engineers and I was delighted to present him with an Undergraduate Scholarship Award.

“As the UK continues to face a huge skills crisis when it comes to young engineers, it’s a pleasure to see young people like Christopher already making a difference in the field.

“Engineers are of great importance. We need to continue to highlight the need for science and engineering in the UK and recognise its importance to the economy.

“I am confident that Christopher will enjoy a successful and exciting career in engineering.”

The institution is committed to offering financial support to apprentices to help them gain a university degree.

IMechE was established in 1847 and has some of the world’s greatest engineers in its history books.
