Lords Taverners’ XI versus Warwick

WARWICK School old boys like Gary Montgomery, Geoff Tedstone and Neil Smith will be returning at 2pm on July 1 to take part in a charity celebrity cricket match.

Facing the ex-pupils, who all went on to become professional sportsmen, will be a team representing the Lord’s Taverners including cricketers Ashley Giles, Tim Munton and Neal Carter along with actor Charlie Dale.

Even Lord Coe has pledged his support for the game which will be free to watch but aims to raise money in aid of both the Lord’s Taverners - which offers a sporting chance to thousands of disabled youngsters - and the African charity chosen by members of Warwick School’s Summer Tour.

This is the Goedgedacht Trust in South Africa which cares for rural working communities in the Western Cape offering welfare and medical support and, in particular, Aids awareness information.

Organisers and sponsors of the Lord’s Taverners - which operate 1,000 specially adapted green mini-buses - include The Brakes Trust, Hilotherm and Bentley Birmingham.

A spokesman said: “Entry on the day is free and for children we will have football games supported by The Brakes Trust and Leamington FC, as well as cricket, face-painting and a birds of prey display.

“We hope people will come along and support what promises to be another fantastic charitable event.”
