Main road in Rugby closed after crash

A major road in Rugby was closed for a time on Thursday after a collision.

The A426 Leicester Road was closed northbound from the Brownsover Road/Boughton Road roundabout up to the junction with the M6.

The incident happened at just after 10am and the road was closed from 10.20am. The ambulance service said two cars were involved in the collision, and one of them is understood to have rolled onto its roof.

Warwickshire Police said that one vehicle had overturned and street lights had been damaged.

The driver of one of the vehicles was trapped and had to be cut free by the fire service. One person was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Coventry at Walsgrave.

The road reopened shortly after midday.
