Man attacked in robbery near Tesco in Warwick

A man was punched in the face in a robbery on the canal towpath near Tesco in Warwick.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred on Thursday October 17 between 9.30pm and 9.45pm.

The victim was approached by a man walking in the opposite direction. He was asked for a cigarette and when he declined he was asked for money. When he declined, he was punched to the face causing bruising around his eye. The robber demanded his HTC mobile phone, which he handed over.

The robber is described as a 6 ft tall, slim, white and aged around 18 or 19, with a pale thin drawn out face and local accent. He was wearing a white baseball cap with a dollar motif, a dark jumper with a thin reflective strip on the front and tracksuit bottoms with two stripes down the legs.

Police wish to trace anyone else who may have been in the area at the time of the offence or who saw anyone matching the description of the robber, or can help identify him through his distinctive clothing.

Any witnesses are asked to contact police staff investigator Jonathan Thompson on 684207 or 101, quoting incident 205 of October 17. Information can also be provided anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
