Medical supply vehicle attacked in Warwick

THE driver of a medical supplies van was injured after a bottle was thrown at the vehicle.

The logistical vehicle, operated by West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMA), was on the Emscote Road at 7am last Saturday when the drivers side window was smashed by the bottle, leaving the driver with a number of cuts to his arm and torso.

A WMA spokesman said: “We would appeal for any witnesses to the incident to contact the police as soon as possible.

“This unfortunate incident could have easily caused more serious injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.

“The fact that the vehicle was damaged and also delayed considerably on its journey with medical supplies is unacceptable.

“The vehicle had to be removed from being used to be repaired which has lead to one less medical supply vehicle being available.

“The cost of the repairs is also an unnecessary cost to the Trust and ultimately the tax payer.”

A window in the nearby Nationwide Autocentre was also damaged.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and has been released on bail.
