More new homes in pipeline for Whitnash

Two more plans for new housing in south Warwickshire are to be submitted to Warwick District Council.

Thomas Bates and Son is applying to build 280 new homes on 11 hectares off land near Harbury Lane in Whitnash, while Richborough Estates is applying to build 94 houses on around four hectares of land off Fieldgate Lane, also in Whitnash.

Both firms have submitted outline planning applications and, if the council agrees to the ideas proposed, further details will emerge and formal applications put forward.

The Harbury Lane development - an amended version of a previous application - would sit close to the Grade II listed Mallory Court, the grounds of which are included on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Interest - although Thomas Bates and Son says that the houses would be set back from the court and grounds and separated by a screen of trees.

A statement on the firm’s application says: “The community engagement and consultation programme has used a range of communication methods to ensure that local residents and organisations affected by the propopals have been informed of the scheme and given the opportunity to comment.

“All of the feedback received has been considered by the design team and addressed where possible through significant alterations to the illustrative masterplan.”

In its application, Richborough Estates points out that the Fieldgate Lane site is within the council’s Local Plan ‘preferred options’ for new housing.
