New HS2 proposal could have greater impact on Warwick

A PROPOSAL for a new route for the High Speed Rail from Birmingham to London is due to be unveiled later today.

The new route, to be outlined by the shadow transport secretary Maria Eagle, would follow parts of the M40 and Chiltern Line and connect to Heathrow Airport.

While this will come as good news to those residents of the Kenilworth and Burton Green area, the new route would be likely to have a much more significant impact upon residents to the south and west of Warwick and Leamington.

It would also run closer to towns such as Bicester and Banbury.

However, the move, which is being proposed by Labour, would be expected to mean that the trains would have to run slightly slower than the more direct route originally put forward.

More to follow.
