New recruits prepare for military training

TEENAGERS from Leamington and Warwick have taken their first steps towards a military career.

Myton School pupils William Holmes and Hayden Barnett, Kineton High pupil Liam Drummond and Maxx Plant of Aylesford School, aged either 16 or 17, swore oaths of allegiance to Queen and country in front of proud family and friends during an attestation ceremony at the Lord Mayor’s Parlour in Coventry recently.

They were among 20 young men and women from across Warwickshire to make the pledge.

Major Bob Bath, Army recruitment officer for the region, said: “The college provides a great opportunity for young people to train as soldiers, while also allowing them to gain further qualifications and continue with their education.

“In addition to gaining basic military training, they will also have the chance to further improve their numeracy and literary skills and earn an apprenticeship.

“I’m delighted that this group of local young people are taking this important first step towards a military career and I wish them all the best for the future.”
