The Leamington-based law firm pledged £2,000 to the 2nd Warwick Scouts to help fund a new hut and boathouse in a £650,000 build to make sure the Royal Navy recognised group can continue in the town after 55 years.

The group provides opportunities and water based activities for over 170 young people and has now outgrown the regularly used hut in St Nicholas’ Park where the group has been based for more than 55 years.

Plans for a new community centre on the same site will include a main hall, kitchen and boathouse but cannot go ahead without continued fundraising to meet the £650,000 target.

Janette Eslick, volunteer fundraiser for 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts described the latest support as fantastic, calling on businesses to follow suit and help a worthwhile case.

She said: “The generous donation from the Wright Hassall Charitable Trust has helped to fund the final stages of planning for the centre and brought us closer to making the dream a reality.

“This funding will help us on our way to ensuring a sustainable future for 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts, enabling us to accommodate not just our current 170 members but also the 130 on the waiting list.

“Along with a larger hut, a new boathouse will also mean we can offer an even better seamanship programme and reach more local youngsters to help them achieve their full potential.”
